COTA Queensland's Peer Education model of training supports participants to develop and then deliver information workshops to their peers.
Seniors Quality Use of Medicines:
Developed and implemented in partnership with the National Prescribing Service (NPS) this topic aims to assist older people to become active
partners in the safe use and wise choice of their medicines and encourage older people to communicate effectively with their doctor and pharmacist
to enable them to enjoy better health.
Brand Name or Generic Medicine? Choosing Wisely:
Also developed in partnership with NPS this topic is a follow-up to SQUM and looks at the safety and effectiveness of generics compared to the
original brand and assists people to learn how to identify medicine by the active ingredient or chemical name and how to make an informed decision
when a choice between the original brand of medicine and a generic is available.
All sessions are free and take 30-60 minutes. Our peer educators know how to make them interesting and interactive, and how to empower older
people to feel comfortable and confident in these issues related to healthy ageing. So participants can be assured of a very worthwhile learning
experience and that they will take away heaps of knowledge, ideas and hand-outs.
The project is funded by National Prescribing Service.
