The COTA Queensland Safe and Confident Living Program increases social participation and reduces older people's fear of crime.

  1. Increases social participation and reduce older people's fear of crime.
  2. Enhances the social participation of seniors by addressing fear of crime and increasing their sense of safety and security in their communities.
  3. Provides a range of activities designed to increase confidence amongst vulnerable seniors, including:
    • the provision of accurate information on crime, safety and relevant strategies;
    • social and personal development activities that enhance life-skills,
    • participation and confidence in community living;
    • referring and linking seniors to services and support available within their local communities;
    • community education; and
    • network development.
  4. Use of a community development approach + working in close partnership with local organisations (health, housing, transport, employment etc) and seniors to enhance social participation and safety.
    • Identification of the location of Indigenous seniors in the inner city region and identifying characteristics & trends;
    • Desktop research and consultation identifying key issues and safety concerns for Indigenous older people;
    • Assessment of the cultural appropriateness and relevance of current safety resources in circulation for consideration for future production of resources.
